The much awaited upgrade of the Alice in Wonderland at Disneyland debuted Thursday, with brand new projection effects and upgrades to the ride.
The ride’s upgrade has been an arduous one, with new safety railings added to the exterior portion of the track as per CAL/OSHA’s request. The Imagineers have done a good job however of blending this in with the rest of the attraction, and this unique dark ride’s upgrade certainly does justice to the attraction’s long history.
Ricky Brigante over at Inside the Magic posted an awesome ride-through of the new attraction, which you can see below:
As you can see, the new projection effects blend in perfectly with the rest of the ride, and the guards at either side of the doors which exit onto the exterior track portion look particularly effective. However, I was expecting more from the upgrades to the Queen of Hearts animatronic.
All in all, a sound investment in a classic dark ride. Expect similar upgrades to other Fantasyland attractions (i.e. Peter Pan and Mr. Toad) as we head closer to Disneyland’s 60th anniversary.
