Universal has confirmed that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Japan will open July 15th. The Park also announced a Twitter competition to gain early access to the new attraction.
The announcement comes amidst a further announcement of the Park’s second highest attendance figure ever, for fiscal year 2013, which saw 10.5 million visitors, up 7.7% on 2012. This is slightly behind attendance for the Park’s opening year in 2001, and Universal Studios attribute this to the changes to Hollywood Dream (in which the coaster went backwards), as well as its new Hello Kitty land.
Visitor numbers will likely increase again for fiscal year 2014 with the opening of the Wizarding World. And with Back to the Future rapidly about to become out of date (as one of the show’s segments takes place in the far flung future of 2015) it seems likely that this may pave the way for a brand new attraction after the Wizarding World opens.
