Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge Arriving in 2019
Disney began the Parks & Resorts presentation at D23 Expo 2017 with a bang by announcing that Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge will be making its way to Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2019.
The lands will be set at a never before seen Trading Post in the Star Wars Universe, and will follow the mythology of the new trilogy of films. Chapek promised that guests would come face-to-face with Kylo Ren and the First Order, as well as Chewbacca and a number of other heroes of the saga. There is even an appearance from Rex, the pilot from the original Star Tours attraction, as the new DJ in the Cantina at Galaxy’s Edge.
Disney has promised two major attractions for each land. The first, set aboard a Star Destroyer, promises to be on a scale that Disney has never attempted before. Whilst details on this particular attraction were light, it promises to be a Theme Park game-changer once opened.
The other attraction to debut will allow guests to pilot the Millennium Falcon, and will reward guests for a mission well accomplished, but may put them on the list of one the land’s bounty hunters if they bring the ship back in a damaged state.
Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek revealed that although opening in the same year, Disneyland will receive its version of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge first. This makes sense, as the land will no doubt be astronomically popular, and given the already grinding capacity issues at Disneyland the lessons learned here will ensure a smoother opening for the attraction at Walt Disney World (although doing this the other way around makes more sense to us).
